The Little Prince
The book The Little Prince has 27 chapters. The book has been translated to 270 languages and has been sold more than 145 million. The events and thoughts described in each chapter show that the book overcomes loneliness through friendship and that people's imagination shrinks as they grow.
In chapter 1 of the Little Prince, the writer describes his first painting as a child, shows to adults and asks: '' Why should we be afraid of a hat?'' (pg10) they say. We always have to explain the elders. Because as they get older, life becomes difficult for them and they lose their imagination. He has to draw a second picture to tell them the first picture. What they see is not a hat, but a bull snake that has swallowed an elephant. Seniors don't understand again. For them, life consists of numbers, tasks and they do not have time for a child. We can examplify this situation. ''You stop painting. Go deal with serious things; numbers, astronomy, geography, etc.'' (pg10). Adults never take their children to work with pleasure. They always try to put the kids in a mold. They see children not as individuals, but as a resource.
In chapter 2, the author is alone ,n the middle of the desert. His plane has failed, he has landed in the forced desert, trying to repair his plane in order to survive. At that moment a small child appears beside him. This kid is The Little Prince. The Little Prince asks for a picture of a sheep. The Little Prince: ''Please, draw me a sheep.'' (pg14). The pilot does what the child says and finally draws a box for him. Sheep is in the box. We are all alone in our tiny world, we need a sheep, a friend. However, in a society where each sheep is hanged from its own leg, real friendships are scarce.
The book describes the world of adults through the eyes of a child. The things that are very important for adults are actually very strange and insignificant for minors. Beings like foxes are described as good. It symbolizes love and friendship. It is emphasized that as people grow up, they lose children's perspectives.
If you want to look at the world through the eyes of children and give yourself a new perspective, I recommend you to read this book.
